Small Actions, Meaningful Impact - Our Policy

At East African Voyage, we have progressively integrated sustainability into our daily operations, partnerships, and travel experiences across Tanzania.

•  We are continuously improving the sustainability of our picnic lunch operations by using sustainable packaging whenever possible for takeaway lunch boxes.

•  We are also currently testing a reusable picnic lunch system using washable containers and equipment carried in safari vehicles. Instead of receiving disposable lunch boxes from lodges, accommodations are encouraged to fill our reusable containers. This initiative is currently in a testing phase and we aim to expand it further as logistics with accommodations improve.

•  In order to reduce plastic waste during safaris and tours, we do not provide small plastic water bottles. Guests are encouraged to travel with refillable bottles, while clean drinking water is available in reusable 20-liter containers carried in the vehicles.

•  In our office, we actively work to reduce our environmental footprint by monitoring electricity consumption, encouraging staff to switch off lights and equipment when not in use, using water-saving taps, reducing unnecessary printing, and promoting double-sided printing practices.

•  Staff members are also encouraged to reduce plastic waste by using shared drinking water solutions instead of purchasing individual plastic bottles.

•  We actively encourage our suppliers and partners to improve their sustainability practices. Sustainability questionnaires, shared good practices, and regular communications are sent to accommodations and suppliers in order to promote responsible tourism initiatives and encourage progress toward sustainability certifications such as Travelife.

•  A three-day sustainability training was organized for the entire team, including office staff, guides, and porters, with the support of an experienced sustainability expert from Kenya. The training focused on environmental, social, and operational sustainability practices and helped strengthen awareness and understanding across the company.

•  We maintain long-term partnerships with local communities and regularly support community initiatives through donations and practical assistance. For many years, we have worked in partnership with the Laibony Maasai community. More recently, we donated educational and training materials to Primont as part of our support for local development initiatives.

•  Through our itineraries, we encourage more responsible and community-based tourism experiences. We have developed a dedicated community-focused itinerary and encourage travelers to discover lesser-known areas and engage with local communities rather than focusing only on heavily visited tourism hotspots.

•  We also raise awareness among our guests about the challenges linked to overtourism in areas such as the Ngorongoro Crater and the Mara River crossings, while promoting alternative destinations and experiences that support a more balanced and sustainable approach to tourism in Tanzania.
